    Hi! My name is Makenzi Kovar, the newly crowned Miss Moorhead 2012! In August I started my college experience as a freshman at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. My educational goal is to pursue a major in Multimedia Journalism.
    I am a 2012 graduate of Perham High School. As a high school student I was an active three sport athlete, a member of Student Council, Interact, PHS Concert Choir, participated in the community musical, and competed on the speech team. I will continue my passion of forensics as a member of the nationally ranked speech and debate team at Concordia College.
     My professional goal is to one day use my journalism degree, coupled with my forensic skills, to work in the field of broadcasting as a meteorologist for The
Weather Channel! 
    I am the oldest of four children; I have one brother Brekden 16, and two sisters, Annika 11, and Kassidy 10. My parents Kevin and June Kovar own and operate a resort on Long Lake near Vergas, MN. My father is also employed by RDO in the fall and spring. My Mom owns and operates a childcare business, Great Beginnings Childcare in Perham, MN. 
    I am very passionate about my platform, "Think Global, Act Local" Support Your Local Food Shelf.

Miss Red River Valley Outstanding Teen is the “Little Sister” program to the Miss Moorhead Scholarship Program. The program is part of the Miss Minnesota/Miss America System. The pageant is held in September, in conjunction with “GREATER MOORHEAD DAYS,” in Moorhead, MN. Young women from the State of Minnesota are welcomed to enter the competition.
Age eligibility is 13 to 17 years of age.

Dear Potential Miss Moorhead Contestant,
The Miss Moorhead Committee is excited and looking forward to crowning Miss Moorhead 2013. The pageant is held in conjunction with "Greater Moorhead" Days. 
We have worked hard to organize the event so that all activities will take place on pageant day; from morning registration through the pageant in the evening. The one day schedule will make it easier on your busy student life. We have closed practices all day long. No one is allowed backstage or in the dressing rooms prior or during the pageant other than Miss Moorhead/Miss RRVOT Pageant Committee Members. Our committee will assist you in hair, make-up, and wardrobe. You are responsible for bringing all items such as make-up, hair spray, pins, etc... We will provide a light breakfast, lunch, & dinner. You may want to bring your own snacks and water as the day does get long. We are excited for another great year!

   Could You Be the Next Miss Moorhead?
The lucky young woman crowned Miss Moorhead 2013 will compete for Miss Minnesota 2014. She will be awarded a $500 Scholarship, the “Official” Miss America Local Crown & Sash, the opportunity to promote her personal platform, and represent the great community of Moorhead, MN.
            Age & Resident Eligibility for
            Miss Moorhead Contestants:
Miss Moorhead is an "Open" Pageant
You must either live, work, or attend school full time in the
State of MN to compete for Miss Moorhead 

• At least 17 years old at the time of Miss Moorhead
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• No more than 24 years old on December 30th of the year of the Miss America National Finals
• High school graduate or successfully completed G.E.D. by State Pageant date
• Female, never married, and have never had
  any children

• Meet character criteria as set forth by the
  Miss America Organization
• Be able to meet the time commitment responsibilities as set forth by the Miss Moorhead or 
  Miss MN State Programs
