Congratulations! to Bethany for making the Top 10 at Miss Minnesota 2010!
Official Platform: Big Brother's Big Sister's of America
Bethany was crowned Miss Moorhead on September 12th, 2009. She says, “All the contestants were so much fun and made the show was incredible.”
Bethany is currently a junior majoring in biology at the College of Saint Benedict hoping to obtain a degree in dental surgery. Her career goal is to one day to become an orthodontist to help other people feel confident about their smiles.
Growing up in Saint Joseph, Minnesota she was a graduate of Saint John’s Preparatory High School. She was involved, academically, artistically and athletically all through high school graduating with honors, performing in over 15 theater productions and being captain of the soccer and track teams.
Bethany is very excited to compete in Miss Minnesota 2010 and represent not only Moorhead but her platform “Mentoring with the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of America Organization.” She has been a big sister within this program for over a year and is touched by the achievements and outcomes this organization provides. She is a member of the BBBS Everyday Advocates Program whose mission is to recruit as many volunteers as possible. “I attend showcases and set up booths to create awareness of the organization. I am continually amazed by the amount of people who come up to me and tell me their personal stories of being involved with BBBS. It’s the personal stories that need to be remembered and shared to help this organization thrive. The movement of BBBS of America has been helping children for over a century and is deemed the most effective youth mentoring program in the United States. My mission as Miss Moorhead 2009 is to continue my work recruiting as many volunteers for this organization and hopefully have the opportunity to set up a program in Moorhead.”
An interesting fact about Bethany is that she loves to fish! “And yes I bait my own hook and take off my own fish,” she says, “people are always so amazed to know that about me because I’m not the typical girlie girl.” Catching walleyes is her favorite but she mostly goes sun fishing.
Bethany is the daughter of Paul and Kelly Beniek with an older sister, Melanie, and younger brother, Benjamin. She looks forward to an exciting year ahead and representing the
community of Moorhead.
